In April 2023, Tom travelled to Japan to validate The Potential of Mobile Forestry by interviewing many experts in the field of landscape architecture, urban forestry, and the art of bonsai. With the help of Prof. Erik de Jong, Tom had to opportunity to attend an internship at Ueyakato Landscape Co, ltd & Teuijyeun Landscape Co ltd; The many interesting conversations, interactions and lessons learnt from these internships have been described in the book: ‘the various roles of trees and their management in Japan’
